Wagoner County man sentenced for second-degree murder
The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that a Redbird man was sentenced to 33 years in prison for two counts of second-degree murder in Indian Country.
Charges against Nicholas Lapez Scarborough, 32, arose after a probe by the Wagoner County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to reports, Scarborough intentionally stabbed two people with a steak knife on Oct. 24, 2023. One of the victims died after completing a call for help and the second victim died from their injuries two weeks later.
Scarborough pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder on May 6, 2024.
Honorable Judge John F. Heil, III presided over the hearing and Scarborough will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence.
Assistant United States Attorney Michael E. Robinson prosecuted the case.
