Update: man in critical condition after assault involving baseball bat

Tahlequah Police officials confirmed Friday evening that one man was injured during an assault that involved a baseball bat.


Police Chief Nate King said officers were dispatched to reports of an assault at 602 W. Keetoowah St. Officers on scene said the assault was being investigated as a possible "homicide."


"Emerson Hummingbird and Christian Hooper were involved in an altercation. Emerson sustained severe injuries during the fight. He was transported from Tahlequah to a Tulsa hospital and is listed in critical condition," King said


King confirmed that the homeowner was detained and investigators were writing search warrants and interviewing witnesses who were at the residence at the time of the assault.


"A search warrant was executed on Hooper’s residence and evidence was collected. Hooper and witnesses spoke with Tahlequah detectives," King said.


Hooper has been released.
