Update 2: man involved in Friday's assault dies overnight

Tahlequah Police Chief Nate King confirmed that Emerson Hummingbird died early Saturday morning.

Hummingbird was taken to a Tulsa hospital and listed in critical condition Friday evening after he was assaulted with a baseball bat during an altercation at a residence on Keetoowah Street.

"Emerson Hummingbird and Christian Hooper were involved in an altercation. Emerson sustained severe injuries during the fight," King said.

Hooper was detained and investigators wrote search warrants and interviewed witnesses who were at the residence at the time of the assault.

"A search warrant was executed on Hooper’s residence and evidence was collected. Hooper and witnesses spoke with Tahlequah detectives," King said.

Hooper was released Friday evening after the scene was cleared. Both Hummingbird and Hooper are tribal citizens.
