Tahlequah man pleads guilty to federal drug and gun charges

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that a Tahlequah man pleaded guilty to crimes that occurred in Indian Country.


Trae Allen Cordell, 30, entered a guilty plea of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and felon in possession of a firearm.


Charges against Cordell arose after a probe by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.


According to the reports, Cordell was in possession of 500 grams or more of a substance that contained a detectable amount of meth with intent to distribute. He was also in possession of two semi-automatic pistols after he was previously convicted of a crime that was punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.


Honorable Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report. Cordell will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending sentencing.


Assistant United States Attorney T. Cameron McEwin prosecuted the case.
