Sheriff's Reports 12-23-24: Man accused of setting blaze to abandoned structure
A man was arrested after he was accused of starting a fire to an abandoned structure.
On Dec. 16, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Billy Jackson was dispatched to South Welling Road due to reports of a structure fire. Dispatchers advised that the structure was abandoned but was occupied by Bobby Joe Sunday, who was seen walking away from the property. A Cherokee Nation Marshal deputy advised he made contact with Sunday, who said he was coming from a camper that was located near the burning structure. Sunday allegedly said he didn't know how the fire started and he and his girlfriend had an argument at the camper. Matt Meredith, an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, arrived and spoke with Sunday. Deputies spoke with Sunday's girlfriend and she supposedly said Sunday stated he started the fire. Meredith informed Jackson that Sunday needed to be detained and brought to the sheriff's office for questioning. Sunday was arrested after the interview and taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center for booking.
Deputy Justin Richardson was patrolling the area of the Bertha Parker Bypass Nov. 30 when he was advised that the Tahelquah Police Department received a call in regards to a man who pointing a firearm at traffic on Cedar Avenue. Richardson drove the area and located a man who matched the suspect's description. He ordered the man to show his hands and the man complied. The man said his name was Christian Justice Wilson and gave the deputy a date of birth. The deputy said the man a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. Dispatchers checked the name and date of birth and stated the man was clear of warrants. Sgt. Nick Chute arrived and reconized the man as Daylon Dreadfulwater. The man overheard Richardson tell Chute he was given a different name, and Dreadfulwater admitted he gave the deputy a fake name. Dreadfulwater was arrested and booked for public intoxication, giving a false name, obstruction, and a warrant.
On Dec. 1, Lt. Tanner Hendley was patrolling the area of North Willis Road and South Muskogee Avenue when he observed a vehicle strike the curb and begin driving in the grass. Hendley conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, Cory Lee Freeman, who appeared intoxicated. Freeman admitted to consuming Tequila and was asked to exit the vehicle. Freeman was arrested after a field sobriety test and booked for aggravated driving under the influence.
Deputy Jaxon Thomlinson was running radar Dec. 4 in the area of State Highway 51 and East Lane School Road when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, 75 mph in a marked 55 mph zone. The deputy pulled the vehicle over and met with the driver, Coalton Hart. Thomlinson could see an opened beer box in the passenger seat and asked Hart if he had anything to drink that night. Hart stated he consumed "a few." Hart was arrested after a field sobriety test and advised there was a firearm in the vehicle. Hart was transported to jail and booked for driving under the influence, reckless driving, and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
These are arrests, not convictions.
