Sheriff's Reports 12-20-24: ATF, OHP's bomb squad contacted after suspicious device found during traffic stop

Two people were arrested during a traffic stop after drugs and a suspicious device were found.

On Dec. 15, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Austin Carver was in the area of State Highway 82 and Jones Road when he observed a vehicle with a defective headlight. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Summer Grasshopper, who said she didn't have a driver's license. The passenger, Brian Keith Osburn, handed the deputy his driver's license. Carver said Grasshopper kept advising she lived down the road and gave him consent to search her vehicle. Deputies found several syringes, and a crystal rock-like substance. The driver and passenger were detained and deputies searched the trunk of the vehicle when they found a small bottle wrapped in black electrical tape with a green fuse. Undersheriff James Brown contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and advised that Oklahoma Highway Patrol's Bomb Squad was en route. The bomb squad took possession of the device. Grasshopper and Osburn were arrested. Grasshopper was booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, defective equipment, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license. Osburn was booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession, manufacture, storage, or use of explosive without permit.

On Dec. 3, Deputy Jesse Mitchell met with a man who said his property in Peggs had been set on fire numerous times over the course of several months. The man also said the entry gate to the property had been destroyed and approximately 10 trail cameras and several animal feeders were stolen. One of the trail cameras had an AirTag on it and showed the item was at a nearby residence. That address returned to a Roy Nichols, whom deputies made contact with previously for being on the victim's property. A search warrant was obtained for Nichols' property and deputies executed that warrant on Dec. 6. Individuals on the property advised that Nichols might be armed so when the man arrived, he was searched and methamphetamine was found on his person. Nichols admitted to taking the cameras and agreed to show deputies where those items were located. During the search, several firearms including a sawed-off rifle were located. Nichols was arrested and booked for grand larceny, knowingly concealing stolen property, possession of a sawed-off rifle, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

On Dec. 9, Deputy Billy Jackson was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash in the area of State Highway 51 and Shady Grove Road. One of the drivers, Christopher Grimaldo, allegedly became combative when asked for his information and demanded that the other driver be arrested, claiming she ran the stop sign and caused the crash. Jackson advised the man that OHP would work the crash. A short time later, Jackson was contacted by dispatchers, who said Grimaldo called 911 to ask for a ride home. Jackson asked the man if he called 911 for a ride home and Grimaldo said he did. The deputy told Grimaldo 911 was used for emergencies only and advised him not to call again unless it was such. Dispatchers advised Grimaldo called 911 again to report that the officers on scene were being "dicks." Dispatchers said they told the man he would need to go to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office to file a compliant and not to call 911 for the issue. They said Grimaldo allegedly said, "F*ck you" and hung up. Grimaldo was arrested and booked for misuse of 911.

These are arrests, not convictions.
