Sheriff's Reports 10-4-24: Suspected drunken driver caught driving in middle of road
A man was arrested for DUI after deputies observed him driving in the middle of the road.
On Sept. 29, Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Justin Richardson was patrolling the area East Downing Street and Water Avenue when he observed a Ford F-150 driving in the middle of the roadway. The deputy activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop and the driver pulled into the parking lot of the splash pad. The driver, Robert Smith, said he and his passenger had been drinking at the bar, where they were coming from. Richardson said Smith almost fell to the ground when he stepped out of the vehicle. Dispatch advised Smith's license was suspended. Smith was arrested and booked for driving under the influence and driving under suspension.
Deputy Richardson was patrolling the area of Water Avenue Sept. 28 when he observed a vehicle traveling without taillights. The deputy said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and he eventually caught up to the driver on East Downing Street. Richardson conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, Jacob Ray Fourkiller. Richardson said there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and from Fourkiller. Fourkiller was arrested after a field sobriety test and admitted to consuming alcohol at one of the local bars. He was booked for driving under the influence and operating a motor vehicle without headlight and/or taillights at night.
On Sept. 22, Deputy Jonah Billy was dispatched to North 450 Road to investigate reports of a physical domestic incident. Two people at the residence told deputies Cody Cobler was still inside and he was going to run. Deputies could see Cobler run into the garage and attempted to pull up the garage door. Billy went outside and told Cobler to come out of the garage, but he pulled the door back down. Cobler eventually ran toward the front door, where Deputy Cassondra Truett was standing. Cobler was stopped and reportedly resisted deputies before he was detained. Individuals at the residence said Cobler became physical with them before deputies were called. Cobler was arrested and booked for domestic assault and battery and resisting arrest.
Deputy Jimmie Robertson responded to reports of a domestic assault and battery incident Sept. 29 wherein Paul Brower was accused of being violent. The deputy met with Brower, who claimed a family member tried to break his arm. Robertson spoke with family members, who said Brower struck one of them in the face as they tried leaving. Brower was eventually arrested and booked for domestic assault and battery.
On Sept. 29, Deputy Jaxon Thomlinson was called to reports of a burglary in progress on South 551 Road. Dispatch advised that a woman was trying to break into a family member's house to steal a vehicle. The family member said Bethany Underwood stated she was going to take the vehicle and left before deputies arrived. Deputy Austin Carver located Underwood, who was reportedly carrying a dead armadillo. Underwood supposedly said she didn't want the animal to suffer, or "make a phone call." Underwood was arrested and booked for public intoxication.
