Sheriff confirms deputy-involved shooting
Cherokee County Sheriff Jason Chennault confirmed that a man was shot with a bean bag round by deputies on East Downing Street Saturday afternoon.
A son stabbed his father on Fox Street early Saturday afternoon and fled the scene. Authorities were looking for the man for several hours before he was spotted while armed with a knife on East Downing Street.
"He refused to put the knife down. We couldn't get close enough to Tase him. The deputy shot him with a less than lethal shotgun round," Chennault said.
The man was transported to the emergency room and Chennault said both victim and suspect have non-life-threatening injuries.
CCSO, Tahlequah Police Department, Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, Grand River Dam Authority, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol assisted.
