OHP: fatal crash under investigation

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a Stilwell man over the weekend.


According to the OHP report, two vehicles crashed just before 7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 20 on State Highway 100 and 585 Road. Kyle Sam, 34, was a passenger in a 2020 Dodge Journey and he was pronounced dead on scene by Cherokee Nation EMS personnel.


The driver of the Dodge Journey was Deeandra Sam, 35. She was airlifted to St. John’s hospital in Tulsa where she was admitted in guarded condition with head, trunk internal, trunk external, arm and leg injuries. A 17-year-old passenger was admitted in fair condition with trunk internal and hand injuries.


Michael Buckner, 58, was the driver of a 2022 Dodge Ram and was not injured. Joyce Buckner, 56, was transported to St. John’s hospital in Tulsa and admitted in fair condition with trunk internal injuries.


The OHP is investigating the cause of the crash and the condition of both drivers.
