Off-duty Tahlequah Police officer injured after gun discharged

Tahlequah Police Chief Nate King confirmed that an off-duty police officer was injured Wednesday afternoon after his gun accidentally discharged.

Law enforcement agencies responded to TNT Grocery in Briggs after the officer's gun discharged and struck him in the knee. Cherokee County Sheriff Jason Chennault said the incident happened as the officer was getting in or out of his personal vehicle, which was parked at the store.

The officer, who has not been identified, was reportedly struck in the knee and airlifted to a Tulsa hospital. He is expected to be OK.
